THE CORRELATION BETWEEN TRAIT ANXIETY, SPORTS QUALIFICATIONS AND NERVOUS SYSTEM PROPERTIES IN KICKBOXERS

The article presents the results of an empirical examination of kickboxers possessing different sports qualifications, from Third-Class Sportsman to Master of Sport. The study was conducted in 2019-2020 on the premises of the Federal State-Funded Educational Institution of Higher Education «Armavir State Pedagogical University» (Armavir, Krasnodar Region), the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of Higher Education «Belgorod State National Research University» (Belgorod), and the «Fight Lab» sports club (Stroitel, Belgorod Region). The study resorted to the analysis of special scholarly literature, the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale, S.G. Vershinin’s test for assessing the properties of the nervous system, the collection of data on the sports qualifications of kickboxers, and mathematical statistics methods (Spearman’s rank-order correlation). We found no statistically significant correlation between sports qualifications and trait anxiety in kickboxers. We discovered a statistically significant negative correlation between trait anxiety level and nervous system properties typical of the sanguine personality type, as well as a positive correlation between trait anxiety level and nervous system properties typical of the melancholic personality type. These findings can be taken into account when selecting young people for kickboxing and other striking-based combat sports, and can also be used to organise and manage the training process efficiently.
