A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO THE STUDY OF A SINGLE ISSUE OF MECHANICS

The main mathematical models of the theory of vibrations have the form of differential equations. Given that oscillatory phenomena surround us everywhere, for a full-fledged engineering education, it is necessary to familiarize students with a number of important-reference mathematical models describing the main types of oscillatory phenomena, among which is the Duffing equation. Modern mathematics has accumulated a large set of tools for studying such models, and to study a particular model, you can use two, three, or even more methods, among which there are approximate analytical and numerical research methods. From our point of view, the complexity of studying the same model using different methods is an effective educational technique that increases the motivation of students to study, since any comparison of results arouses students ‘ natural interest, they receive energy impulses for further actions, and research skills are formed in parallel. In this article, an example of a particular question of mechanics offers a comprehensive approach to its study. It is important that the methodological scheme of training includes the concepts of physical and mathematical models, analytical methods for solving problems, computational experiment, comparison of results, and joint discussion.
